Route to recovery
The West Midlands has had to deal with a lot of bad press because of the recession, after being named as the region with the highest unemployment figures in the UK. The good news is that we no longer hold this claim to fame, with Yorkshire and The Humber having the highest rate at 9.6% in comparison to 9.5% within the West Midlands.
The bad news is that there is a perception that we are a long way off recovery, with a particular focus on the decreasing number of jobs in the public sector. There are still concerns that as a region it is still going to be a while until we see any sort of improvement.
However, Grad Central is hoping to restore faith in both job hunters and businesses in the West Midlands. We have seen first hand since launching over a year ago that there is a promising outlook for employment in the region. Companies are not looking to downsize or make unnecessary redundancies, quite the opposite actually!
Recently, Grad Central held its first Graduate Sales Open Day in Birmingham due to a vast number of positions readily available for both fresh graduate talent and those individuals with a number of years of experience under their belt. The growing number of jobs Grad Central has on offer is a good and encouraging sign of recovery.
This open day is just one in a series that we are planning to organise over the next few months. Grad Central currently has a large number of vacant positions in the manufacturing, marketing and engineering sectors for graduates.
We are also making the most of this opportunity to support local businesses during the recruitment process. With our experienced team of recruiters on the look out for most appropriate candidates to place in these positions, companies can let Grad Central do the hard work for them, completely free of charge.
