SWATTING UP ON BEING THE PERFECT GRADUATE
A recent article on Guardian’s website, ‘The art of graduating in a recession’ streses the ups and downs for those graduates leaving university this year throughout the recession. With everyone making the point to remain optimistic in such times, I’m sure graduates are wanting more answers on how to make the most of a bad situation.
The only realistic solution is to act now – waiting for the opportunities to come flooding in isn’t how it works unfortunately. Showing that you are proactive in your approach to the job market and recruitment will work wonders for you in the long run.
Employers will recognise you as being a confident and go-getting individual who is capable of finding the right opportunities for yourself. Displaying such attributes will make you stand out from the crowd as an ideal candidate for some of the region’s top companies who are looking for these types of applicants.
Here are some tips on job-hunting throughout the recession:
Makeover your CV
There’s nothing worse than not having your current training and experience on show to potential employers, especially if it means you miss out on a job opportunity. Take the time out to look at it and ensure you have mentioned every detail of your expertise.
Talk to people
It’s a daunting time graduating from university and deciding your next step in the real world. Get ideas and tips from like-minded people, other graduates and also local businesses and companies so they can give their perspective on what they are looking for in employees.
Do your research
Something that may seem relatively simple and effortless is to look up an employer prior to an interview and get a bit of background information on them – that way you can impress them at the interview stage with how keen you are about their company.
