Materials Controller

We are looking to recruit a Materials Controller to come and join our team based in Redditch.

Job Title - Materials Controller
Location - Redditch
Salary - £18,000 - 22,000 dependent upon experience

You will be responsible for the cost effective material sourcing, planning, scheduling, and coordination to ensure that materials are provided in sufficient quantities to meet operational needs according to the company's Annual Operating Plan (AOP) guidelines.

The position includes daily contact with suppliers to expedite materials in a timely fashion and to improve delivery performance. Communication and organizational skills will be utilised to manage the company's assets to the maximum value for its customers and corporation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- To ensure the availability of proper material in sufficient quantities to meet customer demand and support
- Scheduling the delivery of material through supplier schedules
- Maintain complete purchase orders and related administrative duties
- Confer with suppliers to obtain product information such as availability and delivery schedule
- Accurately communicate requirements to suppliers emphasizing quality and on-time delivery
- Set up and maintain a suite of Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)
-Utilise the KPI's to identify suppliers to target for improved supply (quality, on time delivery etc.) and actively negotiate improved terms to benefit customers and the corporation
- Conduct and maintain accurate material planning records to protect the company's interests
- Maintain understanding of the delegated supplier base and monitor corrective actions as required
- Maintain professional working relationship with suppliers utilizing a partnership approach
- Interface with other internal departments such as sales, finance, and distribution to ensure material needs are properly identified
- Visit suppliers on periodic basis in order to assist in supplier improvement and problem resolution as required

Candidates must have relevant materials/purchasing qualifications (NVQ, IPS) preferred and/or demonstrable success and significant experience in material planning or purchasing preferably in both distribution and production environments. You must also have experience of small batch and/or made to order manufacturing preferred. Solid understanding of materials operations especially inventory control, planning/scheduling is essential for this role.

All candidates must hold a degree or equivalent level qualification. Hold good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as good analytical skills. The ideal candidate must also have good IT (MS Office) skills and preferably MRP applications.
