19 Oct 12 - 4:19PM  | Graduate

At a time when youth unemployment is at a historic high and the existing job market notoriously competitive, an increasing number of career driven graduates are seeking that first opportunity from which to build a successful career. One Midlands based graduate recruitment specialist, Grad Central, is currently assisting with this.

The company is working with the one of the UK’s leading parcel delivery firms, GeoPost, to meet with its rapid growth. As part of this partnership, Grad Central sourced an outstanding pool of graduates for GeoPost’s available roles. Of these, 32 successful candidates have been placed in various posts across 42 GeoPost depots nationally.

Recognising the need for a younger workforce with relevant qualifications in order to maintain success for the future, GeoPost joined forces with Grad Central. Grad Central has built an excellent reputation for matching graduate talent with the needs of businesses and has a high success rate in placing top quality graduate candidates. The company was therefore appointed as the sole provider of graduates for the business.

Grad Central are specifically employed to source ambitious graduates with strong business acumen and the desire to drive success for the organisation, and created a microsite dedicated to targeting high quality candidates. For its networking graduate management trainee (NGMT) opportunities, of which five positions were available and only one position available in Birmingham, the firm received over 1600 applications.

The candidates were then refined to three graduates per position and the successful applications invited to an intensive two day assessment protocol held at Ashorne Hill, Leamington Spa. Throughout the assessment process, the graduate talent provider managed the potential candidates to ensure all performed at the optimum level in each evaluation tasks. Through this, the application hopefuls were reduced to a 22 strong specialised workforce, with the NGMT opportunity in Birmingham being filled by local graduate Jaipal Dosanjh.

Peter Carroll, Training and Development Manager at GeoPost commented: “From the outset, Grad Central identified our needs and technical requirements. Our depots are divided over six geographical regions and we required five graduates to assist the regional managers here to ensure a smooth operation of our services nationwide. By applying its expert knowledge of our sector throughout all stages of the recruitment process, Grad Central provided our HR team with high quality graduates to pick from, and so we were able to fulfil this necessity. We look forward to continuing this partnership for the future of our growth.”

Each graduate enrolled on the programme will be involved in all areas of the business, including international business, marketing, operations, finance and CPC drive training. This will allow the newly appointed employees to appreciate all aspects of the company in order to reinforce a complete and unified work ethic.
